My husband needs to find a good home for the fabulous Victorian American rococo laminated rosewood Parlor set attributed to J. & J.W. Meeks, which he inherited from his mother. The sofa and 4 chairs are all in excellent condition with original finishes. They have Stanton Hall elements circa 1860's. His mother attained them for her home in New Orleans in the 1930s. When she married 20 years later, she moved the pieces to North Carolina in the and reupholstered them in 1965 in Victorian theme upholstery fabric. The sofa has a hand carved crest of roses, leaves and flourishes flanked by a grape cluster. The chairs are matching. 5 pieces in all.
Does anyone know a potential buyer?

Can you please post some pics. thanks
Here are some pictures of the sofa. The sofa has a hand carved crest of roses, leaves and flourishes flanked by a grape cluster. The crest has some minor looses at the top and is constructed from pierce laminated rosewood. The cabriole legs have fine carvings on the knees, brass casters and one repaired rear leg. Serpentine seat with three carved skirt decorations, original finish condition needs cleaning and polishing. The 2 side chairs and 2 arm chairs are in comparable condition. The 2 side chairs are upholstered in a different fabric, but are, otherwise, a complete match. My husband will get pictures of the chairs tomorrow.

Janet,
The set does appear to be by Meeks. Is the set still located in North Carolina? I am located in Raleigh and might be interested in taking a look at them.
Thanks,
Michael

The set is in Atlanta now. I will be posting pictures of the 2 side chairs and 2 arm chairs w/in 24 hours. The side chairs have a different upholstery fabric but are otherwise a complete match with the other pieces. 3 of the chairs have their front wheels, but one of armchairs has a chip at the top and is missing both front wheels. All the chairs are stable, solid and in very good condition.
Regarding Raleigh, transport of these pieces to your location is an option.

Here are pictures of the chairs. There is a quarter sized chip on one of the armchairs and that chair has lost its front wheels. But otherwise, the chairs are in excellent condition, stable and solid.
BTW, the upholstery on the side chairs is different from the upholstery on the sofa and armchairs.
The armchairs are 26" wide and 48" high and 25" deep.
The side chairs are 19" wide and 43" high and 20" deep.

Can you provide a ballpark estimate of what price you're looking to get for the set? Thanks.
We have sold the chairs. Regarding the sofa, we think $5000 is reasonable.
