I have been thinking about purchasing this library turtle-top table.  Excellent carving.  Excellent marble.  The stretcher is a poor addition, replacing one which is obviously missing, and I cannot find one in my research which I think might work for it if I buy and repair.  The table also has an older repair on the skirt.  What are your thoughts about this table?

thanks.

Wow!  Looks like OOAK (One Of A Kind!)

I was thinking New York/Brooks, but the horseshoe motif throws me. Very cool, BTW.

However, if you're thinking of replacement stretchers/finials, I'd stick with New York, i.e. Belter, Roux etc. for patterns.

Or Brooks :)

Where did you get this table? If the price is right, I'd go for it.
It is near madison Wisconsin...she wanted $4000...I think she would take $2000...
That's quite a discount.  2K sounds good, but I wouldn't do it unless I knew a craftsman who could re-do the stretchers/finial.
2K seems like a very good deal for a highly carved, unique table w/ marble in good shape. It shouldn't be a huge challenge to find someone to remake the stretcher. Check you phone book for cabinetmakers or ask the local antiques dealers who they use or recommend. Ask for some references or pictures of other work they've done. To remake and replace and finish to match the stretcher should be +/- $500 - more if it will be heavily carved (that's about what I'd charge to do it).
The design should be pretty easy to figure out - use books, auction websites, live auctioneers sold results, image search engines, and search for turtle top table, marble top table, etc. woodwright
