During the week of November 23rd to 30th, each new post or reply that you add to the forum will count as one entry in the contest for the May 2005 issue of the Magazine Antiques.  This issues is important for it's coverage of the kings of spiral - George Hunzinger, Merklen Brothers, and Moses Younglove Ransom and is a must for a fan of any of these makers.

If you post 20 times, that's 20 entries, if you post once, that's one ticket.  I will randomly select the winner from the list of postings from the forum and ship the issue out early next week to the winner.

Let's have an active Thanksgiving here on the forum and thanks to all for your contributions to the site.

John

GOOD IDEA, i notice a drop off on posters lately on the board, maybe a contest will get em goin a little. Come on victorian people, lets see your stuff, lets see what's on your victorian furniture shopping list. I would post mine but i hardly ever bid on victorian pieces anymore, an exception being a Bugatti parlor table that i was blown out of the bidding so fast i dont think i had a chance to hit the bid button once.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL
Well we`re not always posting but we do check on things. I love to watch your featured auctions. I`ll probably never be able to afford a Hunzinger thru the auctions but with knowledge gained here I may spot one someday in a dusty old garage sale!!  :)
This sounds like a nice way to reward your regulars and generate some new board postings. I was at Freemans this weekend and was tracking Kamelot...thought about you!
Raymanretro, Hunzingers are kinda cheap right now, depending on which one you want.  I'll keep an eye out for you if you let me know what you're looking for.

amadara,  I had my eye on Freemans and Kamelot, but got distracted and forgot to get back to monitoring them.  I wanted the Merklen swan chair fairly bad and the price it went for was a lost opportunity.
Congrats to James (jacon4) for winning the forum contest!  I tallied up the posts during the Thanksgiving week and used a random number generator to pick James' "Fantastic Bedroom Suite" reply.

Thanks to everyone for sharing with us all.  James, please send me your address.
WOOOOOOOO  HOOOOOOOO, i won, i won, i won.........
Kamelot had a lot of stuff that went for less than I thought. I was sitting over at Freemans most of the day. There were a couple of notable things. One, it pays to NOT be a federal snob at Freemans. Most there were interested in age.
The other thing that shocked me was that a small table with a horribly split top went for about double the estimate. When I went out to look at it again, I was less impressed than the first time I saw it.
I wish I had been more aggressive on a couple of items that went lower than I thought. I need to spend my time in the back of the room, but I like to watch the phones and listen to the conversation so I always sit in front of them.
While I was there, I saw a lot of people checking out two of a set of 6 chairs that were ebonized regency style. They were lovely and fetched a high price with very competitive bidding on phones, internet and in the room. I also like that they post all the results so I can compare the prices to other houses and ebay. That would be an interesting post, as well as one for framed art! I am always interested in what to hang on my picture rails, and would love to see some info from the experts.
:)
