Can send more pics if you would like. It is in stunning condition.
I had to add pierced to my carving. And the fabric has beads worked in. Looking at the bottom it doesn't have any holes from reupholstering that I can see. When I found this chair I thought I had seen this on line at sometime. But I cannot find it or anything close. It has brass casters.
Hi!
I think you're right about the style: rococo. It looks to me like the wood is walnut, and it was probably made in the northeast U.S. It that's the region in which you live, then it would make sense. I would guess the year of manufacture to be ca. 1855-65.
It's a beauty; I've never seen anything quite like it. That's the fun of Victorian furniture; there's always something fresh and individualistic out there, ready for discovery.

Thanks Kevin for your response. I live in St Charles mo area. We met at french connections a few yrs back. Bought the chair in Il small town auction. There was 2 belter rosalie chairs and a meeks Ford chair all out of the same house. Thanks for looking .
Yes, I remember you! I believe we spoke about someone in Salem MO while admiring a plant stand, which is still there BTW.
You found Belter and Meeks chairs in a small-town Illinois auction? Amazing. I've been looking for years in this area for Belter and Meeks, and never had any luck.
New York! It makes sense for your chair, too. In any case, you've got a wonderful find. Unfortunately, chairs don't usually get the same kind of money that you see with etageres, buffets, etc. Around here you would probably expect to pay $500-$700 retail, more if you could definitely attribute it to one of the big makers.
