All I know about this sofa is that it was purchased by a family member at an auction about 40 years ago. I do know that it assembles and disassembles sort of like a puzzle with some type of dovetail joinery. it is very solid. I am not 100% sure that it is Victorian, but that is my best guess. I appreciate any insight that can be offered on this piece.
Any thoughts on who made it or type of wood or age?

Nice!
I'd say the wood is rosewood or walnut, it's difficult to tell. It was probably made in the northeast U.S. (New York), and my guess would be around 1850 or so. Beautiful!!
