Does anyone know anything about this style, date, name, etc.? We are an upholstery firm with many old pieces in our basement and we'd like to sell them (after upholstery).

That would be Karpen Bros.

The sofa is early 1900s
Thank you very much! Another question: How would one describe it? Paul, the business's owner, has just been collecting items for years from people who didn't want to trash them. He's never really tried to educate himself beyond some basics, and, of course, becoming an expert upholsterer. (Just not a furniture appraiser and salesman.)

Yesterday I started to wonder if it is considered Art Deco.

Do you have any suggestion on pricing something like this? The idea is to market it as-is, with the caveat that we will sell only when someone decides to have us reupholster. We've sold some other items this way.

I have a few other furniture pictures that I will post. Also, do you know of any trusted forums for furniture discussion that are not Victorian-related? I don't want to trouble this forum with about furniture that is unrelated to the core topic.

Most Karpen I've seen tends to date to ca. 1900-1910, so it would be more accurately characterized as Art Nouveau.  I would type Karpen into E-Bay, or another antiques-oriented search engine, and see what comes up as far as sofas go.

Karpen is considered to be a top brand from those days, but unfortunately sofas tend to bring less than you might think, because so many people like the new, overstuffed variety.

Nevertheless, you should be a able to get a decent price, once the reupholstering is finished.
