A little late to the party on this one, but I've just started a book titled 'Objects of Desire/ The Lives of Antiques and/Those Who Pursue Them." The title pretty much explains the contents.
It was published in the 90s, back in the boom antique market, or at least boom compared to what we've got now. It's the fascinating story of 3 high end antiques, including a painted blanket chest not unlike the one Jacon purchased recently. The book talks all about who made them, when, how, and where they've been in their "lives" up until the writing of the book. It also talks about antique dealers and restorers in the 1990s.
A very absorbing book. It's by Thatcher Freund and is published by Penguin.
