There is an auction comming up soon with a PA paint decorated chest attributed to Johan Rank (famous decorator in early Pa german culture), so i wrote and asked,
"This chest is attributed to Johan Rank, how so? Anything else you can tell me?"
and this was the reply,
"This is attributed by style and design only. Unfortunately, that is the only information we have. Thank you for your interest."
Hey, i think i'll attribute this chest to Thomas Chippendale, gee wiz.

You should tell them that attributed by "style and design only" is called "manner of" or "after".
lol John, they already know this so telling them again would be redundant.
